Kitchen Work during 2014

Old Kitchen Pictures
This picture was given to me by Ms Rawlins  (Rollins), a past owner.   This was when the house was in the best shape after Ms Rollins had remodeled several rooms and had a large Great Room with a fireplace added to the house.

South Kitchen Wall; This is a picture along the South kitchen wall showing a Large China Cabinet that was build into the wall between the Kitchen and the Utility Room.  It nearly hits the 10' foot ceiling of the room.

West Kitchen Wall; This picture is to the right of the China cabinet looking at the entrance door from the utility room.  Assuming that the 1st space next to the door was for a Refrigerator,

North Kitchen Wall; Looking at the same space to the left for the Refrigerator, The open spot was for a Gas or Electric Stove.  Wiring and plumbing were there for both. You can see a problem with the floor at the spot where the stove was.  There is about a 2 inch sag in the flooring at this point.

East Kitchen Wall; Shows the kitchen sink, and looking at the open space to the right for the Dishwasher,  This opens to a door to the Sun-room or Breakfast room.

East Kitchen Wall;  Better view of  door to the Sun-room or Breakfast room.

Utility Room View

Utility Room view;  This show the Gas Hot water heater.  The space to the right of that is for the washer and Dryer.   This backs up to the West Kitchen Wall, directly behind the China Cabinet.

Utility Room view;  Ceiling problems above the hot water heater.

Utility Room view;  right hand side of the utility room, showing dryer vent.

And now details in the new Kitchen Design

To gain more space in the kitchen, I have torn out the wall between the Kitchen and the Utility Room, and will be moving the Utility room to another location in the house, (A bathroom in the new section of the house)   I have view of what what was done to start the kitchen from ground up.  We removed all of the ceiling plaster, wall plaster, and then ripped up the flooring to find out what was causing the problem with the sag in the floor near the stove area.

I will show picture of this area of construction where we actually had to rip out the floor joist and reconstruct the floor again.

I have now torn out the old Kitchen and am ready to design a new Kitchen to fit the space.
I have removed an old Kitchen Cupboard that stood approximately 9 foot high, and the room divider that separated the old utility room from the kitchen.

Backside of Plaster lathe's show plaster overhang.

Removing flooring -  All Layers of plywood and board planking were removed to expose the Floor Joist.

After Flooring was removed,  the bottom of flooring and ground level debris had to be cleaned up to allow for full exposure of floor joist.

This shows the gas piping, electrical wiring, and plumbing that had to be removed or cleaned up before new floor joist could be installed.
After removing the wall plaster in the kitchen, past windows, and exits could be seen.  All wall electrical circuits had to be pulled out and rewired to current codes.

This shows the level of replacing the old joist.  If a older joist was sound, it was reused, but about half of the joist were replaced and leveled to fix floor slopes.

 Leveling  the Floor Joist.

Finished flooring  -  finally a time to set down and relax.

Walls had to be insulated, then on to the sheetrock.

Electrical Outlets -  Too Many to count, if you are doing the sheetrock.

Plaster, and insulation that came down with the ceiling demolition, What a mess!

Buckets of Plaster Lathe were removed.  Makes good starter for the fireplace.

Cleanup with Vacuum, filters and Face Mask.

Removing Ceiling Plaster and Lathe

Wires and Vent lines in Ceiling

Wiring Issues discovered while removing walls.  This is a 60 amp Electric Stove outlet with a #12/2 romex connector hanging off of it. Is this a Electrical Violation?  Maybe someone could tell me?  What electricians do this?
Closer look at wiring issue.   Also note the Knob and Tubing wiring for the Opposite room wall electric outlet.

Cleaning up insulation that stayed in Attic.

Finally this is what a new room starts to look like.  Sheetrock finally going together.  New windows in the corner facing the pool to the south and the Neighbor's pool to the west.

All of the screws needed to hold a piece of sheetrock.

I am designing using a free design software online at Autodesk.
